Overview

In today's interconnected world, navigating linguistically and culturally diverse societies requires more than just language proficiency. The Council of Europe endorses plurilingualism as a key competence for professional success and personal development, urging universities to equip graduates with the linguistic and cultural resources needed for meaningful participation in Europe's democratic processes. Quality language education is essential for achieving this objective, as linguistic competence forms the foundation for active engagement in democratic culture.

The ENLACED project addresses the methodological challenge of embedding democratic competences in foreign language education at the tertiary level. By creating synergy between contemporary language teaching methodologies and challenge-based learning approaches, we provide foreign language educators with an innovative instructional framework and digital tools that expose students to authentic discussion and reflection on European and global citizenship issues. Our focus on English and the consortium's national languages (Bulgarian, Greek, Romanian, and Ukrainian) enhances language learning opportunities for diverse student populations, including international, migrant, and refugee students, regardless of their field of study or origin.
